COPY DVD TO HARD DRIVE

You want to know how to copy DVD to hard drive? I will show you how.

Copy DVD to Hard Drive: robot

Hi, this is Dredd.

When you have the DVD files on your hard drive, you can make as many copies as you want from it. You can then also convert the DVD files to other formats, for example, a DivX (AVI) movie.

Let me show you how to do it.

DVD5 & DVD9 DISCS

Before we continue to copy DVD to hard drive, I want you to know this:

bullet Do not use RW (re-writeable) DVD discs for your movies. (You or someone else may just erase the movie by accident.)

bullet Use writeable discs (+R or -R). Check if your DVD writer supports +R or -R discs. All the latest DVD writers supports both.

bullet Now, you get 2 kinds of + or - discs. You get DVD5 discs and DVD9 discs (+ and - for both).

bullet The DVD5 blank discs are the most common used. They can hold up to 4.7GB of data. (That is what they say, it is actually, 4.48GB.)

bullet The DVD9 blank discs can hold up to 8.5GB of data. They are also called double-layer discs.

HOW TO COPY DVD TO HARD DRIVE

We are going to use the free version of DVDFab.

You can download it from here.

After you have downloaded DVDFab, click on the DVDFab.exe file (that you have downloaded) to install it on your computer.

Now, slide the DVD that you want to copy into your DVD writer. Close any program that comes up or wants to play the DVD.

Click on the shortcut that was created on your desktop (or click START, select PROGRAMS and then choose DVDFAB) to start DVDFab.

Click on HD Decrypter (Free Edition) (Marked as “1”) then click on Start DVDFab (Marked as “2”). DVDFab will now inspect the DVD.

►  Click on DVD Copy (Marked as “3”). It should look like the image above.

bullet You have 2 options here (to copy DVD to hard drive):

You can copy the Full Disc or only the Main Movie.

The Full Disc includes:

► The main movie
► Menu's
► Trailers
► All languages
► All subtitles

With the full disc option your movie will be exactly like the original DVD. The full disc option will usually require a DVD9 disc to copy the files onto, or if you want to use a DVD5 disc - it will most likely need compression. It depends on the movie, some movies are large (in file size) and others are smaller.

Do not worry if the files need compression. Just do it a few times and you will quickly see what I mean.

The Main Movie includes:

► Only the main movie

This means, when you put your DVD (which you have copied using the main movie option) into your DVD player (PC or TV), the movie will immediately start playing. There will be no menu or anything else, just the movie.

Between the 2 options (full disc and main movie), I prefer the main movie option. The main movie option takes out all the unwanted stuff. You can still add other languages and subtitles if you want.

The file size of your movie will be smaller than the full disc option and your movie will usually fit onto a DVD5 disc without compression. If it needs a little bit of compression, do not worry.

The main movie option is also great if you want to convert your DVD movie to AVI (DivX).
