DVD TO AVI CONVERTER

bullet If you do not have the DivX Codec on your pc, install it now, we are going to need it. Download and install DVDx (if you have not already).

1. Start DVDx. (Yes, I know, there is a new v2.20, but I've found a bug in it, so I will still be using v2.10 for now.)

4. Do not change any input settings.

The only thing here is to check the OUTPUT FRAME RATE (Marked as "1"). If your original DVD disc was PAL, then leave it on 25.0 PAL. If the disc was NTSC, change it to 23.976 or 29.97 NTSC. Usually 23.976.

If you are not sure, leave it on PAL. Click the OK button (Marked as "2"). If you get a warning message which says, “The output and input frame rate are not equal”, then you know you must change it to NTSC.

5. Click on SETTINGS from the menu bar, and select OUTPUT SETTINGS.

Here you can choose the file size you want your movie to be. A good size for a DivX movie is between 700MB and 1100MB. So put in, for example, 1100 in the box (Marked as "14"), click ACCEPT, then OK.

Now the important thing here is to look at the Estimated size (Marked as "15"). You will see that the Estimated size here is a little bit bigger than what we have chosen. Go back to the bitrate calculator and set it a bit lower until the Estimated size is what you want it to be.

8. Click on APPLY.

9. Click on FILE from the menu bar, and then click on SELECT OUTPUT FILE

12. Now click the ENCODE button (Marked as "16").

Your movie will now be encoded to a high quality DivX movie. When DVDx is finished, go to the folder that you have selected for the output file. Your movie will be there as an AVI file.

You can then rename the file to the name of your movie. (Right-click on the file and choose "Rename". Remember not to take out the extension, the ".avi" at the end.)
